The weekend effect, and the Tuesday problem

A four-panel dashboard that explained why revenue swung across the week — and what to do about the mid-week slump.

The question

Sales numbers said what; nobody knew why revenue swung across the week — or what to do about the mid-week slump.

The work

Engineered a day-of-week field from raw dates to surface weekly traffic patterns, then built a four-panel interactive dashboard — sales by day, product category, payment method, and customer age group, with a regional slicer for drill-down.

The finding

Weekends carry the store: Saturday peaks and Tuesday bottoms out. Household products and frozen foods drive revenue with fresh produce close behind, cash beats card and mobile payments combined, and shoppers aged 18–25 skew toward household and beverages while older groups prefer frozen foods and fresh produce.

The impact

A three-pillar growth strategy: age-targeted marketing, a loyalty rewards program, and incentives to shift cash buyers toward digital payments. Note: the dataset was synthetically generated for this project.
